Women & Wine on Wednesdays was created by Linda Brewster Meffert in early 2005 in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a way for women to improve lifestyle balance by re-connecting with friends, making new acquaintances, and being open to develop new ideas and relationships.

Christy Hackenberg and Gaby Tillero created the branding for the concept, after mutual friend, Sandra Lombana introduced them to Linda Meffert. The four women founded the New Orleans location in 2005.

Over the years, many women in many cities have come to enjoy this same opportunity made available by the expansion of Women & Wine on Wednesdays into cities around the country.

(L-R) Angela M. Kanceler, Dawn Devoe, Julie A. Gerrard

Angela M. Kanceler moved to Dutchess county a few years ago and has integrated herself into the community by volunteering time to various organizations. Her career began in a recruiting firm in Manhattan where she worked her way up from junior recruiter. The fast paced nature appealed to her and soon she was staffing within various industries. She has worked for corporate companies such as TJX Companies and Adecco Employment Services. Angela joined LCS Facility Group, a full service commercial cleaning and property maintenance company in 2009. She immediately implemented new marketing campaigns to ensure the company’s growth and profitability. She also created a Human Resources department and restructured the company’s hiring processes. Angela has also been involved in many programs, actively hiring individuals to work at LCS Facility Group such as the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board in an effort to train unskilled individuals to be productive members of the workforce.
Angela is also a board member for the Council on Addiction Prevention & Education (CAPE) and is the Chair for the Foundation’s annual Dance-A-Thon which raises money and awareness for the organization and is committed to seeing the organization grow and succeed. She volunteers her time by fundraising and helping organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and Catholic Charities and is also involved in various Chamber of Commerce in the area, including the Dutchess County Regional Chamber and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
Angela resides in Hyde Park with her husband Anthony and daughter.

Dawn Devoe is originally from Dutchess County and has since relocated to the Albany area of New York.  Due to her fondness of the Hudson Valley, she was not able to completely leave the community, so she chose to commute back and forth and has been doing so for the past couple of years. It's been challenging but well worth it!  Dawn is a Corporate Recruiter employed by Ethan Allen Personnel Group, where she has met some of the most talented individuals in the Poughkeepsie area.  She enjoys participating in many of local networking events. Dawn enjoys meeting new people and bringing them together in a fun and informative way.

Julie Gerrard
joined Hudson Valley Magazine in late January as a new Account Executive. Julie has more than 18 years of experience in sales, marketing and management in the local community.  Having grown up in the area, Julie felt giving back to the community was necessary in her life and now serves on Boards and Committees as well as volunteering her time. Julie currently is the Vice President for the Board of Directors for The Council for Addiction Prevention and Education of Dutchess County soon to take the role of President. She is also an active part of CAPE’s Executive and Finance committees as well as the Co-Chair of the Fundraising committee.  Additional committee participation has included the Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce’s, Women in Business Committee, Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Golf committee, IT Committee, and the Women’s Leadership Alliance committee, Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation’s Business Excellence Awards Working committee, the Vassar Warner Home Personnel committee, the Abilities First Golf an Gala committee. In her spare time Julie coaches her daughter’s softball team in Pleasant Valley where she lives with her husband and 2 daughters.  She travels with the Pop Warner Hudson Valley Knights cheerleading squad as Team Mom, participates in the Local PTA and volunteers with her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop.
Julie has a passion for her family as well as her work. Julie specializes in business development, marketing and new client sales, but it is also important to her to be a dedicated wife and mother.

If you would like a special way to reach out to the women at an upcoming Women & Wine on Wednesday event, please let us know and we'll be happy to provide more specifics.

Women Bingo
Come experience a unique facilitated icebreaker which provides a fun, efficient way to meet other women by enabling attendees to acquire many direct introductions in a short amount of time using a specially designed program called  Women Bingo.   It's an easy concept: upon arrival at the event, attendees are offered an envelope.  The envelope front has 16 questions a la bingo style, but instead of boxes with numbers, there are boxes with different questions and a place for names on each box. (Example: what is your dream vacation?, your favorite late-night spot?, etc.)   Attendees ask each other these questions, then jot the answers and names down in each of the boxes.  The first one to complete the Women Bingo card with 16 names shouts "BINGO!"  and is awarded with a complimentary bottle of the featured wine, but all the Women Bingo players are winners as they get to take home the perfect tool to building their own personal "good ol' girls network", an excellent source of contacts for whenever a specific need arises, for example for a real estate agent, party planner, stockbroker, tennis pro, etc.
