Women & Wine on Wednesdays was created by Linda Brewster Meffert in early 2005 in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a way for women to improve lifestyle balance by re-connecting with friends, making new acquaintances, and being open to develop new ideas and relationships.

Christy Hackenberg and Gaby Tillero created the branding for the concept, after mutual friend, Sandra Lombana introduced them to Linda Meffert.  The four women founded the New Orleans location in 2005.

Over the years, many women in many cities have come to enjoy this same opportunity made available by the expansion of Women & Wine on Wednesdays into cities around the country.

About Women & Wine on Wednesdays

The founders of the Poughkeepsie Women & Wine on Wednesdays
would like to personally welcome you to join the next event

Dawn Devoe          Julie Gerrard             Angela Kanceler

Angela Kanceler is a MWM (Married Working Mom) married 12 years to a great guy.  She decided to relocate from the city to the Hudson Valley around two years ago.  It has been an amazing experience and she has been fortunate to meet some wonderful people both professionally and personally.  She has been lucky throughout her career to have worked with well known, established and profitable companies.  Her professional career began at a small family owned staffing company where she worked her way up and learned the business as a Staffing Assistant. The more she learned, the more she became interested in recruiting, staffing, coordinating and human resources. The fast paced nature appealed to her and soon enough she was staffing within all industries - financial, light industrial, administrative and medical.
Currently, she is the Director of Marketing and Office Operations for LCS Facility Group, a full service commercial cleaning and property maintenance company. The position is both challenging and fulfilling.  She enjoys marketing new products to customers, networking and attending events in the community.  There is never a dull moment!  Some of her interests include painting and entertaining. She is a pop culture fanatic and hopes to one day be part of the World Series of Pop Culture.  What she loves most is spending time with her daughter doing crafts or cooking. As busy as her schedule can get as a working mother, she strives to volunteer and be an integral part of the community.  She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Council on Addiction Prevention and Education (C.A.P.E) as well as the planning committee for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk.
Angela is looking forward to bringing Women & Wine on Wednesday to this great community and is confident that with so many talented, successful and interesting women attending it will be a great success!

Dawn Devoe is a very happily married, hard working mom of three beautiful, talented and smart daughters.  She is originally from Dutchess County and has since relocated to the Albany area of New York.  Due to her fondness of the Hudson Valley, she was not able to completely leave the community, so she chose to commute back and forth and has been doing so for the last year.  It’s been challenging but well worth it!  Some of her interests are learning new languages (currently learning Hindi), cooking exotic foods with my husband, reading, and watching great movies.
Dawn is an Executive Recruiter employed by Ethan Allen Personnel Group, where she has met some of the most dynamic individuals in the Poughkeepsie area.  She enjoys participating in many of local networking events and looks forward to serving as an Assistant Founder for Women & Wine on Wednesday.  She is excited to have the opportunity to bring some of the women she has met from these events together in a fun and informative way.

Julie Gerrard joined Integrated Enterprise Solutions, Inc. in September as the new Business Development Manager. Julie has more than 10 years experience in sales, marketing and management.  After graduating from Marist College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology, Julie found herself in the mortgage origination industry working with banks such as HSBC Mortgage Corp. and CitiMortgage Citi Corp.  Julie served as Branch Manager at Adecco, the world’s largest international staffing company where she recruited, placed and managed all human resource functions and payroll for over 100 employees in White Plains and Poughkeepsie.  After Adecco, Julie worked as Business Development Manager for Staff-Line Inc., a local PEO.
Having grown up in the area, Julie felt giving back to the community was necessary in her life and now serves on many Boards as well as Committees. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for The Council for Addiction Prevention and Education as well as the Spaceship Discovery Science and Technology Board. Committees participation includes the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Golf committee as well as the Southern Duthcess Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee, The Dutchess County Economic Development, The Business Excellence Awards working committee, the Vassar Warner Home Personnel Relations committee, and the Abilities Programs Golf committee.  Julie coaches her daughter’s softball team in Pleasant Valley, where she lives with her husband and 2 daughters.  Julie has a passion for her family as well as her work. Julie specializes in market communications and new client sales, but it is also important to her to be a dedicated wife and mother.

If you would like a special way to reach out to the women at an upcoming Women & Wine on Wednesday event, please let us know and we'll be happy to provide more specifics.

Women Bingo
Come experience a unique facilitated icebreaker which provides a fun, efficient way to meet other women by enabling attendees to acquire many direct introductions in a short amount of time using a specially designed program called  Women Bingo.   It's an easy concept: upon arrival at the event, attendees are offered an envelope.  The envelope front has 16 questions a la bingo style, but instead of boxes with numbers, there are boxes with different questions and a place for names on each box. (Example: what is your dream vacation?, your favorite late-night spot?, etc.)   Attendees ask each other these questions, then jot the answers and names down in each of the boxes.  The first one to complete the Women Bingo card with 16 names shouts "BINGO!"  and is awarded with a complimentary bottle of the featured wine, but all the Women Bingo players are winners as they get to take home the perfect tool to building their own personal "good ol' girls network", an excellent source of contacts for whenever a specific need arises, for example for a real estate agent, party planner, stockbroker, tennis pro, etc.
